Jesse Samuel Miller, 81, a resident of the Sherwood area for 47 years, died
in a Portland hospital on Dec. 12. His health had been failing this past
year. Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 14, in Attrell's Sherwood
Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Otis Harden, pastor of the Sherwood United
Methodist Church, officiated and concluding rites were at the Pleasant Hill
Cemetery near Sherwood.
Mr. Miller was born the son of Samuel and Francis Miller on June 2, 1887, in
Fort Collins, Colo. He came to Oregon in 1898 and settled in Dayton,
finished his schooling and lived there for about 30 years. On Jan. 19, 1921
he was married to Frances Heater and they moved to the Middleton area
which as been their home these past 47 years. He became a brick mason
and followed this trade in conjunction with farming.
Surviving are his widow, Frances Miller of Sherwood, one son, Rodney Miller
of Altesia, Calif; brother Francis Burch of Portland; two grandaughters and
two grandsons. Participating in the funeral service were Genevieve
Schamburg, organist; Ray McCann, soloist; pallbearers Elgin Schamburg, Homer
Haynes, Harry Vinson, Donald Holmes, Henry Dewey and Louis Gimm.
