Family Contribution:  David C. Iler is an Indian War Veteran Reg. was Oregon Mounted Volunteers, Yakima Indian war 1855/1856. From claim of widow for service pension under act of June 27, 1902.

Came to Oregon in 1850, born 1830 (although 1831 is on the stone), in Philadelphia, Pa. Parents died when he was 3; lived with family and settled with James Iler. Married Naoma Elizabeth McConnell in 1860.  Father of Ida (Catching), John, Hugh, Susan, Emma (Calkins), Mary E. (Kelly, Jessie, and Bertha (Kelly).

Notes:  Daughter of David Sears and Martha (Fields) Sears Frye; Mother of Neva (Cereghino),
           Ruby Iler, Leta (Jones), and two infant sons.
Obituary:  Cottage Grove Sentinel  18 April 1968  Funeral services were held in Sherwood Monday for Della Iler who died at her home there on April 11.  Born in Cottage Grove, October 18, 1874, she was the daughter of David Sears and Martha Fields Sears.  She attended school in the Sherwood area and was married to John C. Iler in Hillsboro on August 23, 1893.  She lived in Newberg and Carlton briefly but had lived in the Sherwood area nearly all her life.  She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Neva Cereghino of Sherwood, Mrs. Leta Jones of Eugene and Miss Ruby Iler of Sherwood; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  Committal was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Sherwood, Oregon.
