Obituary:  Douglas R. Saxton    July 6, 1943 - Oct. 16, 1997
       Douglas R. Saxton died Oct. 16 at his Sherwood home of a heart attack.  He was 54.  Born July 6, 1943 in Berkeley, Calif., he lived for 24 years in Tigard, from 1971 through '95.  He had resided in Sherwood's Woodhaven development for the last two years.
    A member of the Rolling Hills Community Church in Tualatin, he was from one of the church's five founding families.  He and his wife linda had been married for 32 years.  A graduate of Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill., Mr. Saxton served on both the Tigard and Sherwood planning commissions.  He played in the Tualatin Valley Community Band.
    Survivors include his wife Linda of Sherwood; daughters Tanya Engel of Camas, Wash., Amy Emery of Sherwood and Laura Holmes of Tualatin; brother Paul, sister Heather Saxton and father Robert, all of Oakland, Calif.; plus two grandchildren.

Obituary:  LUBELLE SCHEERLING
     Lubelle Scheerling was born the daughter of Mark and Lucy (Todd) Seely on Monday, May 4, 1903 in Sherwood, Oregon.  She was married to George J. Scheerling at Hoodview, Oregon on September 28, 1915 and lived most of her married life in the Tualatin area on Lower Boones Ferry Road.  Mrs. Scheerling was well versed in the womanly arts of homemaking and was an exceptionally good cook and seamstress.  She was a very godly woman and taught Sunday School at Southwood Park Baptist Church.  About fourteen years ago she and her husband moved to Newberg where they have been members of the First Baptists Church.
     Mrs. Scheerling died quietly Sunday morning, November 3, 1985 in her sleep at the home where she had been staying in Portland when she was 82 years, 5 months, and 30 days of age.
     Surviving, and left to honor her life, are:  Her husband, George J. Scheerling of Newberg; two sisters, Helen Heck of Tulelake, California, and Georgia Heimbach of Newberg; five nieces, Judy Robinson of Gresham, Barbi Shannon of Corbett, Linda Smith of San Francisco, California, Shirley Waldrip of Yuma, Arizona, and Florence Beller living in California; one nephew, Arnold Heimbach of Dundee; and those who have come to know and appreciate her as she has been a part of our community.

Family Contribution:  Carl was born in Braunschweig, Niedersachsen, Germany, not Russia.  He came to Oregon around 1880 from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he raised white asparagus.  I don't have a family record of William but think he must be a son of Carl's.  I found only my great-grandfather, Max and a son Charles in the census records from Wisconsin. My great-grandfather, Max Schulpius, was born in 1855 and died in 1919.  He is buried at the Robert Bird Cemetery in Stafford.
