Contribution of neighbor, Stephen Baker:   "The family historian noted that the elder had a mill in Wilsonville and settled in 1874.  Listed in the 1880 census for Pleasant Hill.  I believe that this is the Bell for whom Bell Road is named.  My family had stories that a "Bell" organized building a road from present day Wilsonville Road to Graham's Ferry Road to connect the two and continued where it follows today to the intersection of present-day Baker Road.  My family grumbled that Mr. Bell organized it, but the Bakers donated the land and the labor -- but Bell got the naming rights!  The section up the canyon followed an old Indian trail.  The trail continued crossing the Baker DLC and the "new" road was moved easterly to the present day location which was at the edge of cleared fields rather than running diagonally across the farm.  The Indian trail was a trading route between a native settlement on the river near the mouth of Corral Creek and where present-day Riverview Lane is located (the river would flood the wetland, and as it receded, many fish were left stranded and were easy to spear).  The natives' trail connected to the Chehalem/Tualatin and Grande Ronde areas and tribes.  As a boy growing up on our farm, I hunted for and found numerous arrow heads in the fields where this trail crossed.  Additionally, I have an anchor used by the natives for a canoe from the Riverview Lane area that was picked up by Endymian Baker upon his arrival in 1853 and when they wintered in a Zumwalt cabin near the mouth of the creek."

Oregonian Obituary - Tuesday, 21 Feb 1995
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1995, in Attrell's Sherwood Chapel.
Mr. Bischof died Feb. 16 at age 78.
He was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Portland and moved to Sherwood in 1920.
He lived on a farm in the Sherwood-Wilsonville area his entire life, raising hogs, cattle and grains.
Surviving are his brother, Ed of Wilsonville; nieces, Sharon Lund of Wilsonville and Margaret Gamman of Sherwood; and nephews, Donald of Wilsonville and Dennis of Sherwood.
Vault interment in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Neighbor Contribution:
Owned and ran a large dairy farm on the east side of SW Brown Road and extending to the wetlands to the border of Seely Ditch.  The large dairy barn collapsed in the Columbus Day Storm of 1962 at milking time, crushing his herd of cows.  Architecturally-significant and rambling 19th century farm house still stands.  Had a double row of unusual mulberry trees along the front walkway during his life (not sure if they still exist).
The farm is now part of Villebois and the wetland nature reserve and roundabout/bridge.

Stephen Baker -- I worked in the hay fields for him during high school.
