Notes:  Oregon Pioneer, One of only three individuals in the cemetery born pre-1800.
Ledger Notes:  Age:  84    Nativity:  Kentucky
Family Contribution:  Wife of John Jehuennes Baker, mother of Endymian, Terry, Malinda, Moses, Williamson, Parmelia, Henry and Polly Baker who emigrated as adults and some with children/extended families on one wagon train. Elizabeth and John are believed to have emigrated on an earlier train. Born Sept. 4, 1791. At age 62, she was considered an elderly emigrant for such a crossing. And her husband was 67 at crossing. All family members took adjoining DLCs. Elizabeth & John's was on upper Bell Road and was chosen because of the huge stands of Douglas Fir trees. Based on Tennessee logic, the best farm land is where the trees are the largest. Little did they know that the opposite is often the case in Oregon and with Douglas Fir trees. Their farm turned out to be rather poor soil and littered with boulders. The other Baker family members were more fortunate in their DLC choices. At the site of their spring, a locust grove grows as offspring of a locust sapling brought from Missouri in their wagon.  Stephen Baker  310-490-8510   sgb90210 at aol.com   Elizabeth's g-g-g-grandson and great-grandson of Alison and Florence Baker, current owner of their farm.

Obituary: Sherwood Valley News, June 23, 1927
After illness and suffering lasting nearly four months following an operation for appendicitis Glenn R. Baker died last Sunday morning in the Good Samaritan hospital, in Portland. Mr. Baker had suffered light attacks of appendicitis for more than three years, and had been advised by his physician to submit to an operation to relieve him of the trouble, but did not consent to it until about four months ago.
When the operation was performed it was found that the disease had made such progress and had become so malignant that his recovery was very doubtful. Every thing that surgical and medical skill would do availed nothing, and after a brave fight for life Glenn R. Baker passed away.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the home in Hood View community on the farm where, thirty-seven years ago, he was born. The funeral was attended by a throng of his neighbors and friends, for "Chick" as he was affectionately called by every one, was a general favorite, and all who know him were his friends.
Services at the home were conducted by Rev. C. A. Pickering, pastor of the Sherwood M. E. church. Services at the grave in Pleasant hill cemetery, were conducted by the American Legion of which Mr. Baker was a member there, on a beautiful afternoon in June, underneath a mound of roses, ? that is earthly of Glenn R. Baker was laid at rest. Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter; his mother, three sisters and four brothers.

Monument Survey

Monument Material:    Granite monument with no base or apron
Auxiliary Stones:   None
Monument Problems:  Seriously tilted; monument appears to be out of place in front of the large Mary and Thomas Baker monument. The large monument was toppled in 2008, colliding with the Glenn Baker monument resulting in edge chips and scrapes on both stones.
Engraving:                  Mint condition with some lichen
Illustrations: Border decorations
Flower Containers:    None
Other Remarks: One of seven monuments and eight burials of record in Lot 59, all of which are within a concrete border that surrounds the Baker family plots.  The border surrounds all of Lot 59.  This one is in front and to the right of the big Baker stone.
